So your prepared to do business, have a recent pay stub, insurance information, a current phone bill with your name and address on it.

Please show some etiquette, and don’t just drive off waving as you go. If you don’t see what you’re looking for at least stop and let the sales person talk to you. Many a sales person has gotten a lecture or even lost their job by not stopping cars that drive thru.

Believe it or not, sales people are told to either bring you inside or let a sales manager talk to you before you leave the lot.

As you drive onto the car lot, be aware if you see some sales people standing around the outside of the building, or if they are all inside.

The ones standing outside are hungry, they are either just doing their time watching the lot, or more likely they are the ones that need to make that sale today.

These men and women are there to help you find that one car that they can sale you. Some are there to find the car you want, but others have a “hot” list that will pay them the most if they can sale you the car that they want to sale you.

Sales people get the bad reputation for this reason. Most are there to help you find that one car you want, so give them an even break. Don’t prejudge the sales person. Give them a chance to talk to you, and figure out if they are there for you or them.

Now that you have figured out what you want, and picked a day to go to the lot. What next.?

First: Wash Your Car. I can’t begin to tell you how many cars I have seen drive on the lot full of trash, covered with mud, or just in general not ready to be appraised.

If you are ready to look for a car, you should be ready to buy that day. More than a few times I have had a person find the ideal car for them, only to decide to get it tomorrow. Then later that same day someone else finds the same dream car, and takes it home.

The next day the first person shows up ready to buy and oops no car.

Now that you have an idea about the car, truck, or Suv that you are interested in. And by the way that will be the first question you hear from the sales person.

But I digress…before you walk onto the lot pick a good time to go. You want to go during the first 10 days of the month or the last ten days of the month.

Why?

The reason is two fold. The first 10 days the sales person is trying to get a fast start bonus by selling usually 3 or 4 in these first 10 days. They are also trying to get a good head start to make what ever quota places them in good standing with the monthly expected number that they signed up for on the stat sheet.

Since I have never done it before it would seem that this is an adventure. Now what to talk about? Supposedly you should talk about something you know.

One of my past lives I was a car salesman, so maybe I can say something that might help others. For my first blog entry I will start at the top. You hear a lot about buying the right car, or finding the car for you.

You will also hear the car sales person talk a lot about what you are looking for. But the truth is that most people that come onto a car lot have no idea what they are looking for except for the price they want to spend.

Some are wondering what the planet will be like when are grandchildren are here trying to figure out ways to fix what generations before them have broken.
Seems we will have to locate new planets to populate,or space stations large enough to hold millions of humans.
