Wonder they say can never end in this world; imagine the case of my eighteen years old, next door neighbour’s son, Jude, who is found of chasing anything in skirt and blouse. Good or bad habits has its roots, it is either acquired or inherited.
It affects the victim if the predominance is more pronounced in a certain environment. Children are always the victims of these habits because their mind is very porous therefore it absorbs anything, whether good or bad.
Jude did not enjoy the closeness and of his father who is one of the soldiers sent on a peace mission to Liberia during the Liberian war. At a very young age, he was brought up by a mother who uses the opportunity of her husband’s absence to commit immorality with men of different shades and character.
She sometimes brought these men to her matrimonial home in the full glare of Jude and the house girl. Therefore He had been seen all these habits from his mother, as very normal. His first sexual experience started with their more matured house girl, as a result of this she was sent packing for sexually harassing a thirteen years old boy.
Jude’s sexual escapades began, after his first encounter with the house help. Before he was seventeen, he has had series of girls, begging for his attention, his stature athletic an well trimed made him look older than his age; therefore he did not have problems convincing the older women to go to bed with him.
The day Jude’s father came back from Liberia after the peace keeping mission was the day I will never forget in my life. His friends were planning to organise a party for him, on his safe arrival from the war front and the arrangement was in top gear.
Suddenly, there was a very hot argument outside, between Jude and a fair young woman almost the same age with his wife, followed by a young slim heavily pregnant girl. Everybody came outside to know what the argument was all about. The secret that Jude has been keeping from his parents suddenly blown open.
Jude has been stealing money from his mother to augment the meagre savings he realised from his part time job in a manufacturing company, to finance his pregnant girlfriend giving the impression that his parents are not living in Nigeria.
The case did not blow open until the girl pregnancy reached an advanced stage and the money suddenly stopped coming, the mother of the girl had to throw caution to the wind, and she decided to investigate more about Jude’s background, until she is able to trace Jude to his parents’ house.
Jude’s father was so devastated to the point of collapse; he did not know that the small kid he left behind before going to Liberia had suddenly become terrible womaniser.
The issue was to be suspended until his wife come back from her office later in the evening. Just as the first woman was leaving, there is another knock on the door again and Jude was asked to open the door for the visitor to enter.
The visitor these time happens to be another woman with another equally heavily pregnant girl again, but the girl this time was younger than the first one.
But, Alas! “Who is the owner of this pregnancy again” there is no other person than Jude “this impossible” said Jude’s father, “how can an eighteen years old boy impregnate two young girl at the same time”? “This is unbelievable” said the crowd that has started gathering momentum.
It was at the middle of this pandemonium, that Jude’s mother entered.
But his husband reserved all comments and took it calmly, because he believes that all these waywardness displayed by Jude is as a result of her carefree attitude to life. His long absence from home should not be an excuse for not bringing Jude up properly.
Jude was finally called to defend himself, if he can lay claim to the first girl pregnancy, how did he come about the second pregnancy? But Jude broke down in tears he said that “the second pregnancy does not belong to him and that that the girl was his first girl friend and they parted ways when an older boy threatened to kill him because of her and had not even seen the her for almost four months until that day, she showed up in his father’s house ” Jude in his youthful innocence said that “if he is not the owner of the “pregnancy the child should die, but if he is the owner, the child should live”.
Sometimes, our utterances or words can be so powerful, that it takes an immediate effect, if given the right atmosphere to sink its roots.
And this comes from genuinely repentant and the mouth of an eighteen years old boy, who felts so guilty, when he sensed his father’s reactions to his behaviour. And unbelievably, the child from the second girl died immediately it was born and the first girl delivered safely.
During the christening of the baby, the pastor in charge made it that clear Jude, is a product of marital infidelity, we should train up our child by given them attention and not to neglect them in the pursuit of money and other frivolities of life.
