Snatch thief on the rise in Melaka !

http://utusanmalaysia.blogmas.com
A real case that happen on my friend’s friend’s wife.

There’s no denial, that we all had a good dinner at the Bei Zhan restaurant last Friday 13th July 2007, courtesy of our very own YB (Yew Beng). However, an unfortunate incident happened on our way out of the restaurant after the hefty dinner while walking towards our cars parked about 30 meters from the Bei Zhan.

James., Boon Yean and I were walking in front of the three ladies, Annie, Doris and my wife, Winnie. They were talking happily along the way. When we were about to cross the road to the other but same side of the road, following the traffic flow, where the cars were parked. the gentlemen crossed first while the ladies, being slower crossed, a few seconds later. Suddenly we heard a loud scream from one of the ladies and when we looked back, we saw a young Malay guy on a motorcycle taking off with Dori’s handbag. We tried to give chase but it was too late and the snatch thief had already made it to the other end of the road. There went Doris’ IC, driving licence, hand phone, house keys and some cash in the handbag!

James told me that, last week another friend’s wife had the same experience around the same spot after coming out from the restaurant and one my neighbours informed me it had happened even in a busy spot like Jonker walk. So what is all these telling us? M’cca is no longer save as it used to be. It won’t be long before it’ll reached the same level as JB, KL or PJ in terms of the crime rate. The police and the government are not doing enough to curb the crime rate in Malaysia, despite the fact that, the NEP or Never Ending Policy is not helping the bumiputras enough to prevent them from stealing and the religious department is busy catching kalwat cases and not emphasing enough on the other sins of their religion. Can you imagine this sort of thing happening on Friday which is a holy day for the muslim and they mainly target the Chinese? So, tell your all your ladies to be careful when going out in Melaka these days. The worst thing is when it happens to tourists with their international passports inside their handbags when they visit our country. So much for Visit Malaysia Year 2007! So what if we catch the thief? You’ll find him roaming the street again immediately after the next day for he’d be probably the policeman’s son or relative who is doing it. Unlikely but true.

Anyway, we didn’t expect the dinner to end up this way, but, it’s unavoidable. The only consolation is that, Doris was not hurt during the attack and she didn’t have much cash money in her handbag that night. Hope we’ll all take this as a lesson and don’t take our own safety and security for granted even in our hometown, Malacca.
