A phone so thin you can’t see it? That’s the claim Samsung made of its U100 phone (right). Of course it’s not true but at just 5.9mm, the U100 is the thinnest cell phone yet developed. It has a 3mp camera and is GSM compatible, but not 3G. It’s expected to go on sale this spring, pricing to be announced. With its new F700 (below), Samsung has joined Apple and LG Electronics in offering a touchscreen phone. The F700 is the first to be compatible with 3G WCDMA in addition to GSM. It has a 5mp camera, support for a wide variety of multimedia file formats, but its screen is just 2.8 inches compared with the 3.5 inches on the Apple handset. Screen resolution is 240-x-440 pixels, which puts it lower than the iPhone,
but higher than the LG K850.
Other features include a QWERTY keyboard on the lower-half of the phone that slides out from behind the display when needed. Price and
availability have yet to be announced.
