9. Further about my website's update (27.08.2006)

In this “blog-entry” I will just mention some annoying things in regard to updating my website. In one sentence: it seems to me that I am simply unable to stop fixing those minor “glitches” that I discover after I’ve already uploaded most of the documents to my FTP server …

You see, the thing is that I needed to upload 3/4 of all the six site-variants’ documents again, since I’ve discovered too late that I misspelled the date in one of the meta elements (namely “year-day-month” instead of “year-month-day”, i.e. “meta name="modified" content="2006-05-06 00:30:00” instead of “meta name="modified" content="2006-06-05 00:30:00”), so it wasn’t correct by the ISO 8601 standard anymore. And I just couldn’t afford that, since I’ve decided that I will be updating only the three particular variants of my home-site that have AdSense ads on them. Therefore, I wanted for these particular free-hosts/site-variants (i.e. the ones that will not be updated anymore; see the list of them in my previous “blog-entry” linked above) to be as ready for the final/permanent state as possible. So I’ve rather uploaded all the files on all the FTP-servers yet one more time on 6.6.2006, 7.6.2006 and 8.6.2006 respectively, and therefore I also changed the value of the meta element’s attribute mentioned above to “reflect” the changes made. First, I needed to rename the “labels.rdf” file to something else (I chose the name “labels.rdf.xml”), but luckily only for the Geocities free-host, because it complained with “Invalid filename” note after an unsuccessful upload attempt. As second, I added the “Google Analytics” code on 50webs and Atspace free-hosts (also see my previous “blog-entry”), and on the next upload on this very same day, I also fixed some of the “entities” (all this on 7.6.2006), in particular the one for “&” character which is often used in the links that I add. And finally on the 8.6.2006, I removed the “<?xml version='1.0' encoding='windows-1250' standalone='no'?>” code segment (it’s a XHTML-declaration) from the beginning of the documents because that particular line triggered a so-called “quirks mode” in the Internet Explorer 6 web-browser. But even after that, I first fixed the word “glithces” to “glitches” (at 2:30), and then in the afternoon on the same day (at 17:30 to be precise), I also put the dates above between the <strong> tags); all this only on the “events7.html” pages: http://users.volja.net/tayiper/other/events/events7.html, so that’s why its meta info/value is different from the others (also check the file’s “modified” attribute if you want); hopefully, that was really the last edit. /UPDATE: Well, it wasn’t, i.e. I made yet another minor fix (only added a single character) on 9.6.2006 at 00:30.

P.S. - Yeah and of course, all this beside many other usual minor stuff that I’ve fixed too, but there is just too many things to list them all here; and honestly, they are even not worth being mentioned here. And well, here is goes yet one more time: as always, for important site-related changes check out my site’s “events” pages; starting with the first page: http://users.volja.net/tayiper/other/events/2005/events1.htm…, and as of writing this “blog-entry” ending with currently the last page: http://users.volja.net/tayiper/other/events/events7.html.
