60. Further update on my new website (7.05.2007)

webcoding | webdesign | website

In today’s “blog-entry” I am only further notifying you about my completely new website that I created a few weeks ago. To repeat this once more: this particular site has now become my main general (meaning that it’s not strictly computing, nor strictly non-computing related) personal website, and it basically only describes my other websites and blogs, and lists links to them. So you see, it is only a some sort of a navigational site, not the site with actual notable/interesting content.

As I mentioned in my previous “blog-entry” here in my blog on Senserely site (while this “blog-entry” is its follow-up), I’ve entitled this new website of mine simply Tadej Persic’s website: http://tadejpersic.50webs.com/index.html since as already mentioned above it is a navigational website only. The website is of course maintained only by me, and licensed by a well-known free Creative Commons license.

In the previous “blog-entry” titled “59. I’ve finally made one new website (19.04.2007)”: http://www.senserely.com/tayiper-59_ive_finally_made_one_new… (mentioned but not linked in the paragraph above), I wrote that the coding/designing of the website is not finished yet (i.e. that I yet need to choose background and link colours, a “favicon.ico” file etc.), therefore I am now letting you know that now I think that the website’s coding/designing is finally complete.

And once more for the record, here are links to the site’s “index.html” page: http://tadejpersic.50webs.com/index.html, and to the site’s “sitemap” page: http://tadejpersic.50webs.com/sitemap.html.

P.S. - So if you are interested in how this new website of mine looks like and so on, be welcomed to visit it, and optionally please do comment on its design etc. through the “add new comment” link below this text!!

Best regards, Ivan Tadej (user: “tayiper”)

hello my opinion on adsense

hello my opinion on adsense integration is thatyou should use same blue color as your page background for the border and background colors of the ads

AdSense ads integration

Thank you very much for the reply James. Yes, regarding AdSense ads integration, I was already told that in the “Ad-placement on my new ’tadejpersic.50webs.com’ site”: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=320474 thread that I opened on DigitalPoint forums. However, I must confess that I don’t know exactly what to change, I mean you said to: “use the same blue color for the border and background colors of the ads”, so you mean that in the ads-code I should use the blue color (the one as it’s used as a page background) instead of the white colour?? So that means to simply replace the blue color with the white one anywhere in the AdSense ads’ code where the HTML code for the white color appears??!

Yes Ivan, there are two

Yes Ivan, there are two fields in the adsense code (note that there aren’t there if you didn’t select any specific color scheme when creating your adsense block in adsense admin) which you should set to the same blue as your background, they are BACKGROUND and BORDER. Then the three others are TITLE, LINK and TEXT. You’ll probably have to change the TITLE one because a blue link on a blue background is not the best :-) You should simply have the title in white, or whatever is your actual link color on your page. The TITLE of adsense ads should be the same color as the other links in your page. Or it should be a little different, ligther or darker, but in the same color, for best click results.

Folks, I finally did it...

Well, and I am just reporting back that I have finally did it… Please James can you visit it once again and tell me if it’s as you’ve imagined it or at least if it’s OK?! Oh and by the way, I haven’t found the “TITLE” one in any of the AdSense-enabled websites’ source-code that I’ve checked so far.

Sorry, my bad, there are

Sorry, my bad, there are only Link, Text and URL

When I was talking about TITLE I was referring to Link.

OK now my suggestion to you (apart from putting another adsense block above the fold) is to have the BGCOLOR of the ADLINK (google_color_bg) of the same light blue as the background of your navigational links.

It will not look exactly the same (the background will be a full line of light blue) but the effect will be what you expect: an increase of your CTR.

Good luck

Thanks for reply, just one more thing

Hey James, thanks again for a quick and educative reply. As first, sorry but what exactly do you mean by “above the fold” (btw. I want to “learn” the meaning of this phrase for a long time now), and as second, what is your opinion on setting the colour for/of border (i.e. to other than blue, but possibly some light/unobtrusive) compare to being invisible as it is now??!

/EDIT: Incidentally I was referred today on some forum to this particular article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Above_the_fold on Wikipedia, however I am not 100% sure if the meaning of that one is actually the same (although it surely/obviously is at least similar) as what you wanted to say with this phrase!!

Hi, I believe the border and

Hi, I believe the border and background color on adsense blocks on your site should be of the same color as your background. The adlink in your particular case should have a bg color of the light blue, not the border color.

on adlink the border color is the color behind the ADS BY GOOGLE text, the bg color is the color behind the links.
This is the same as for adsense blocks except that horizontal adlink has no border, just the space where ADS BY GOOGLE is.

Above the fold means what a user sees of your website without scrolling down the page. Let’s say for users with a 1024x768 resolution.

Oh sorry James, you know...

… I’ve re-read that article on Wikipedia website, and I see now that somehow it does in fact explain the very same thing as I guess you were referring to, i.e. for the AdSense ads (probably you meant Leaderboard Text-Ad) being located in the upper half (where I currently have one Link-Unit) instead of the lower half of website’s page as it is displayed in a web-browser.

And one more thing to note

Well, it’s a totally unimportant note, but for the sake of accuracy: you know James, I wrote and posted (as usual, I wrote it when off-line) that previous comment of mine before seeing that you too have posted a new comment.
