This “blog-entry” of mine was written because I didn’t want for my comment that I already wrote for user revolusi4’s blog here at “Senserely” community (in particular for the latest “blog-entry” titled “Speed Up your Windows XP”: http://www.senserely.com/revolusi4-speed_up_your_windows_xp….) to go into the “oblivion” by not posting it (again, since I already wrote it); you see, apparently he did something wrong (i.e. the user that wrote it), like violated Senserely and/or Google TOS or something and was probably banned from “Senserely” (or there could be something else, I am just speculating though) since the mentioned/linked page is not accessible anymore, or at least it wasn’t yesterday when I wanted to comment on it.

And it’s once again all about the so-called “registry cleaner” type of programs, and the myth surrounding them; I am saying “once again” because in fact, I already created a “blog-entry” about this subject. Anyway, the subject of my comment replying to his “blog-entry” would say: “These programs are mostly snake-oil”, while in it, I attempted to wrote the following few short sentences:

You know, revolusi4, these registry-cleaning programs are in most cases a snake-oil. I really highly recommend you to head over to Ed Bott’s weblog and read the article/entry titled: “Ed Bott’s Windows Expertise » Why I don’t use registry cleaners”: http://www.edbott.com/weblog/archives/000643.html (see my own comments signed as “Ivan Tadej”), while optionally also see the “blog-entry” on this “Senserely” blog of mine that I’ve entitled “19. Registry related programs: part 2 (29.08.2006)” (just use the links labeled 1, 2, 3 etc. below) in which I describe the only such program that’s worth using.

P.S. - IIRC, he recommended some program called XP Repair or possibly XP Repair Pro 2006 (I know the name from other, ehmm, let’s say “sources”), and what bothered me the most was that he suggested that using it to clean the “orphaned” registry entries (i.e. keys, values) will dramatically speed-up the computer’s performance. And this is simply not true, as you can read in the article/entry on Ed Bott’s weblog that I linked above in the quoted text, and I am always tempted to respond to such claims, be it on some blog or on some message-board.

Cheers all, Ivan Tadej (user: “tayiper”)

Yes, recently I banned a few

Yes, recently I banned a few members who don’t want to comply with the simple policy: no copy and paste from other sites that don’t belong to them BECAUSE that’s too easy to do, and not interesting. Thanks for creating another interesting post, I have to admit I never clean my registry.

Ahhh thanks, so it is ...

Ahhh thanks James, so it is as I suspected. Yeah, some people just never learn, or don’t want to understand and play “by the rules”.
