38. The confusion about movie-shooting (4.09.2006)

You know what bothers me for quite some time now in regards to how the “big” movies are filmed, but also about filming of these particular scenes in general (i.e. not only movies with a huge budget) ??

Well, I am interested about the following. For instance, let say that they are making a movie, in which there is a scene where two actors are talking to each other (so this applies almost to any movie), but the camera has focus only on one of the two actors: do they do this sequence in a way that they shoot each actor separately, or do they shoot both actors together, even though it obviously isn’t necessary, since only one of them is visible in the end ??

P.S. - I thought that they probably do it as in the latter example; maybe because of the “right” or more “realistic” atmosphere or something.
