As the war was ending, the Nazis hid vast quantities of gold and silver and art works that they had looted and hoarded. A significant looting was that of the Amber Room in a castle in St. Petersburg in Russia. The legendary room was made of amber and gold.
Heinz Peter Haustein, the son of one of the Nazi troops, said his father had left directions where the treasure trove was hidden. He has located the site in south-eastern Germany, and he believes the treasure is hidden in an underground cave.
A dig is being carried out. He will not be able to lay claim to the treasure found, but the reward and satisfaction will be enormous.
