Heath Ledger's Portrayal of The Joker in The Dark Knight

I haven’t seen “The Dark Knight” yet, but everything I’ve read and heard tells me that it is a wonderful film. More then anything, I’ve heard nothing but rave reviews of Heath Ledger’s performance as the Joker. I’ve even heard that, regardless of the unfortunate untimely death of the actor, his portrayal is oscar worthy.

I’ve always been a huge fan of anything and everything Batman related, so I’ll no doubt have to go watch the movie in theaters. Still, I have mixed feelings about Ledger’s role.

On the one hand, I’ve no doubts that his performance is phenomenal. And, I know that he spent a great deal of time giving it his all. Being that he was a remarkable actor to begin with, and I love the character regardless, I’m sure that I’ll be bowled over by his portrayal of the iconic villain.

On the other hand, this is the role that ultimately led to his demise. It was this role that messed with his head to such a degree that it had a part in killing him.

So, now I’m left with mixed feelings. I’ll love his performance, I know that. But, I’ll hate that he did this performance, because of it’s role in forever removing him from the silver screen.
