I read a news story today, regarding a woman who elected to take her own life, after her financial situation became more then she could bare, and in an effort to save her home for her family.
She sent a fax to the mortgage company, informing them that she would be dead by the time the had the chance to foreclose on her home. That very day, people were coming to look at the house, as it was to be auctioned off around dinner time. She shot herself that afternoon, and was found an hour or so later.
Her suicide note instructed her family (who apparently had no idea what was going on with the mortgage not having been paid in nearly 4 years) to use her life insurance money in order to pay for the house. Of course, most life insurance policies won’t cover suicide, so it’s highly unlikely that her dying request will have the opportunity to pan out, making her planned demise entirely in vain.
These situations are so very sad to read about. But, this kind of severe desperation isn’t as rare as one might like to think, which just makes it even sadder.
