Collection of the 35 free file managers

file manager | free software | freeware

There are programs on our computers that we even do not think about. For example, Windows Explorer. Have you perceived it as a separate software title, or just as a mere built-in Windows Utility? This utility is given by Microsoft. It did not change much through the software versions, and lack many useful features that we need in our daily activities. There are many alternatives to the Windows Explorer. You try - you will not be able to get back.
Please review the collection of 35 free file managers, I have posted on RateItAll, with brief description, links for download, and rating.

Are you still using standard Windows Explorer?

Well, personally I use/run...

Yeah, and I use “Total Commander”: http://www.ghisler.com/ file-manager instead of the default Windows Explorer for years (and I couldn’t live without it), and beside that I also use/run “bbLean”: http://bb4win.sourceforge.net/bblean/ shell-replacement (it’s a variant of “bb4win”: http://www.bb4win.org/) as my default OS shell instead of the Windows in-built Explorer (shell is what provides GUI, i.e. Start Menu, shell, tray, desktop etc.); by the way, in Windows operating-system both shell and file-manager run in “Explorer.exe” process.

You may also want to check the http://tadej-ivan.50webs.com/software2.html page on my main computing-related website, particularly see under the “UNSORTED NON-SETUP RESIDENTS” where I describe its advantages in a nice list.

Also, for other file-managers check out the “Few GUI and text-based file-managers:” section on http://tadej-ivan.50webs.com/links1.html page, and especially the section “Links to pages that list file-managers:” on page http://tadej-ivan.50webs.com/links2.html on the same website of mine mentioned in the paragraph above.

P.S. - And if you’re really interested please take a look also at the “File Manager of your choice thread”: http://episteme.arstechnica.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/99609816/… that I created quite a while ago on a forum on “Ars Technica” website; as its title says, there are many such programs mentioned/described/discussed (with screenshots) and linked in it.
