There are multiple situations in the computer daily use, when you need to make an image, reflecting the computer current screen appearance or certain part of the screen. It might be required when you need to share with your friend the screen view, or when you need to submit the ticket for the computer troubleshooting, or when you are saving image from the Internet, that could not be saved through the “save as” option. On every PC, there is a basic built-in screen capture utility PrintScreen, but its functionality is so limited that any iser should be interested in additional non-standard utilities, that are doing the same and much more, and for the exactly same price - zero. Choose one, that will fit your needs, based on the product functionality, user interface, and set of features. Presented Web List, hosted by RateItAll.com, provides the brief program descriptions, links, and rating:

And I use and recommend...
Well, for that purpose I use a program called “IrfanView”: http://www.irfanview.com/ image viewer/editor (of course, it’s FREEWARE); of course it has many other features beside screen-capturing, so I really recommend it to everyone!!
P.S. - By the way, the mentioned program is ideal for converting between various image-formats. If you’re maybe interested see the somehow related “Is there an ’ultimate rule’ regarding gif/jpg/png sizes?!”: http://episteme.arstechnica.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/99609816/… thread that I opend on “Ars OpenForum” forum a few days ago.
