A blogger's union? You've got to be kidding...

So, bloggers are considering unionizing? This has to be a major joke. I do not see the benefit here. If this is for healthcare benefits, why not simply try and get small businessess to be able to group together and get better pricing? If blogging is your sole source of income, you are essentially a small business, and could join for healthcare. I can already see the downsides of a blogger union though. Bob breaks his hand and has to receive short term disability cause he can’t type. Google, one of the main supporters of bloggers, through adsense is now required to provide him with disability income until he is able to blog again. Can you imagine how ridiculous this could become? A blogger would call his union rep because his post wasn’t DIGG’d enough, lol. I fail to see the benefits that will come about from bloggers unionizing. Freelance writers are one thing, as they actually get remunerated directly for their text, unlike bloggers that usually rely on advertising revenue. I could forsee unions trying to force every advertiser to contribute to a “jobs bank” for bloggers that don’t get enough compensation from their blog, along with them requiring that your dues are 2% of all adsense revenue generated by your blog. Let’s hope that day never comes.
