I’m just sick of school. It’s just the 2nd day back from mid-year vacations and I already hate it. I’ve spent about 5 hours sitting at my desk, doing homework after homework… And just when I thought I was done, a Chemistry workshop appears! It’s just too frustrating, I’ve tried to do it, and it’s impossible! The thing is like done by the devil himself.

I don’t know how teachers really expect us to learn if they just keep filling us with material, class after class, assigning homework after homework, not even stopping to check if everyone has got the class. I just really hope there comes the day when this obsolete system is changed, I’m sick of it. I, fortunately, manage to get by with good grades and hardly survive to this massacre, but my friends are really having a hard time. I don’t know if I had mentioned it before, but I’m a student of the Science specialty. I love science, Biology, Chemistry, Math… they’re awesome and quite amazing. But teachers just make you hate them with your whole heart.

Well, I just resigned to complete that workshop, because it’s undoable. After having assignments like these, you wonder… What’s the purpose of all this? What’s the meaning of bearing all the suffering and late-night study sessions…? Just to memorize for a test and get a grade… And so what? What about learning? What about thinking? What about experimenting? What about solving problems? Isn’t that important anymore? Geez, I wonder if, when you go to work, someone will ask you what’s the enthalpy change for glucose…?

I know school is a necessary evil, all I’m saying is that teachers and principals should look for ways to make it more attractive, interactive, and fulfilling. They should look for ways for students to LEARN, not to approve a subject. It shouldn’t be obligatory, since students should WANT to go to school, to fill that learning bug that impulses them to learn and learn more. Anyway, who’s who to judge and measure how much someone knows or is able to do just by looking at a paper full of memorized answers? Full of questions with no real meaning…? Authorities need to change these ways, unless our educational system finally crashes.

In my country, Panamá, the educational system isn’t really working. Students are failing everywhere, with deficiencies in whatever subject they can find. It’s depressing. I hope someone listens… and when they listen, to make a change. Innovate. That’s all I’m asking.
