There’s one sentence I like: “better be paranoid than sorry”
Which means it is better to be overly protective than being sorry later when something happens that you didn’t plan.
Well, somehow a hacker deleted the content table of Senserely, on 16th august and I didn’t have any backup, which is really really bad.
My hosting company (1and1) was totally unhelpful: no backup and cannot provide MySQL logs.
I have access to Apache logs but that didn’t help much.
So all members have lost their inputs.
I have lost all my inputs.
Now I’ll do a regular backup.
I’m trying to get back some of my own content via MSN and other search engines own cache, that’s not easy.
It’s more my fault than the hacker’s fault, he is probably a born asshole, I made the unforgivable mistake of not doing a simple backup, every week or even every month, so I have nothing now.
I let the points system as it was before the content deletion, now if you don’t want to submit in your blog again, I’ll understand, I wouldn’t trust a site which is hacked and cannot recover my content, so why would you?
If you want your account to be deleted, so that no information about you is left on this loosy website, please contact me.
If you have lost content, you can try getting it back while it is still on MSN’s cache: http://search.msn.com/results.aspx?q=site%3Awww.senserely.co…
For Google’s cache:
http://www.google.com/search?q=site:www.senserely.com
And click on the text “Cached” next to the results.
Cheers,
James
