YouTube started to deal revenue to their users, as they mentioned few months ago. You can read on YouTube blog that they will expand their program and elevates most popular users to partners.
So, they decide to start changing the perception of YouTube. The most popular and original content creators from their community will begin to participate in the same revenue sharing and other opportunities that are available for YouTube Partners (NBA, NBC, CBS, UniversalMusicGroup, etc).
New user-partners will have ability to control the monetization of their video. What this mean? In generally that new user-partners will choose or mark video which will be “prepared” with contextual AdSense ads or, some other banner ads.
But this is classic way of advertising, like old media do. Nothing new. Probably is the reason Google’s recently acquisition of DoubleClick which will be used for this monetization (this is just my speculation).
From my point of view, this is just first step in YouTube revenue sharing model. It’s not what we expected. The revenue sharing models with AdSense ads and videos are already known, just for example: Flixya, TheVideosense, InfectiousVideos, Magnify.net, etc…Also content creators reward model as Revvers are in use, with more or less successfulness.
I’m shure that there will be some changes to their revenue sharing program. From step to step there will be more and more content creators included in revenue sharing until the last niche will be covered. (This is another speculation). Oh yes, and who’s are the new YouTube user-partners? Well, we know some of them:
LonelyGirl15, LisaNova, renetto, HappySlip, Smosh, valsartdiary and others.
And video for today:
Old-Spider Man
Spider-Man’s theme song when he becomes a senior citizen.
