Dog Barking, can drive you and your neighbors crazy!
To promote harmony in the household, and the neighborhood, here are a few tips for ending that annoying dog barking.
1. If you have to leave your dog and/or other pets alone in the house while at work or out on errands, then you need to give them a distraction for a little while, that will drown out little noises that may set your dogs off, especially anxious dogs.
I personally like to leave the radio or TV on low, which seems to make my pets feel less anxious and less lonely while I am out, and also cuts back on the barking. (Especially since my dogs will bark at everything, including a bee buzzing by the window!). This is something you can do while you are trying to train them to stop barking, since you need some time and patience.
Your neighbors will thank you!
2. Try tiring your dog out. Exercise is good for the dog and it certainly doesn’t hurt you! Dogs, need to burn off some of that excess energy, which will cut back on their barking. Especially if you have an anxious dog. Go to the park, or play frisbee or ball in the yard, get them jumping and running. They will be happy and sleep better. Plus dogs are social, and love to interact with you. You wouldn’t like to spend the entire day in the house or yard with no one to talk to would you?
As tired as you may be when you get home from work, try the above tips, and you and your dog will feel better.
