There has been released on YouTube a video showing a US marine in Iraq throwing a puppy off a cliff. The small puppy is grabbed by the back of the neck, and as it is hurled into the air, it emits sounds of yelping.
This has caught the attention of thousands of viewers. Many have posted comments on the internet expressing horror and disgust. A small minority are skeptical as to the authenticity of the video. Some comment that the puppy seems to be already dead before it was thrown.
The Marine in question has been identified by users, who have been able to look up his profile in some internet sites. The authorities are also instigated into carrying out an investigation. They believe the man in question is a marine who returned to Hawaii in October last year.
A check on the sites shows that his profile has been deleted except on one site where it is kept “private”.
More horrifying things have happened in Iraq, involving innocent civilians, but this graphic and callous incident involving a helpless puppy has pricked the public conscience.
