Many people begin their online career by spending big bucks. They spend thousands of dollars to have a website professionally designed, hosted, and maintained. The problem with this method is, their chances of success are no better than average. I think it is a much better strategy to begin you online career by spending little or none of your own money.

Can it be done? Certainly, I’m proof of that. I began my Internet business with no knowledge about the business. As a result, I was forced to do a lot of research. My research led me to believe that I could start making money online without any cash of my own. Following is the process I used to get started.

Begin by deciding on a theme (or niche) for your online business. Everything on your site should be centered around this central theme. So, spend some time and do some research before making a decision. Ideally, it should be a subject that you are somewhat familiar with and enjoy.

After selecting your niche, do a search for ‘free website hosting.’ There are hundreds of companies that offer this free service. Most companies that offer free hosting will place ads on your site. I did not see this as a serious problem because I too would be placing ads on my site. What difference does one more ad make? As an alternative, you can start out with a free blog. If you have no knowledge of html (a computer language used to make a website), you might be better off with a blog.

If you are using a website, do a search for free website templates. This provides a basic format for the look of your website. If you are using a blog, choose a template for it. There are templates for practically any style site you want. After setting up your site, add content related your niche. Content can be articles or any typ of information that your visitors would be interested in. If you cannot develop your own articles, go to one of the large ezines and download related articles from there. If you are using that method, make sure you comply with the ezine’s terms of service and include the author’s resource information.

After adding your content, place ads in various places on your site to add some bulk, spruce it up, and make a few dollars. Adsense ads are a good way to get started (you can add additional ads later). You can find Adsense by doing a search for ‘Google Adsense’.
