Each year a handful of our family members study over the Kentucky Derby line-up and we all pick out our horses that will win. The Kentucky Derby Race is held at Churchill Downs, we can’t get our act together enough to actually go to the live derby party on-site. Somebody is usually sick, or can’t get off work or some other random reason.
This year we have had a damper on our joy about the Kentucky Derby because we (3 out of 5) chose a horse last year that won and we again selected him to win the second round in the run for the crown at the Preakness event. Our horse was quite feisty and did win the derby, but his performance during the Preakness Stakes became the death of him. We have not had any enthusiasm this year, not because of the money, but because of the sadness over Barbaro.
Finally last night, we took a nice look at the Kentucky Derby list and we have all picked our winners! HAHA. (yeah, that is what we all think for now, winner!) So, I have placed my win choice on Cowtown Cat from Gulf Coast and Winstar Farms.
My mom has put her thumb on a horse named Zanjero (hehe, I don’t even know how to pronounce that) from Ronald Winchell. She also had an eye out for the horse named Liquidity, but strayed away; I don’t remember why she liked the horse nor do I know why she didn’t go for it as her winner.
My uncle has placed his choice as winner and he chose Nobiz Like Shobiz. I really love that name, and find it hard to believe that the name hasn’t been previously used. Surely it has? This horse is owned by Elizabeth Valando. Good luck uncle. Remember who your favorite niece is? xoxo
Let’s not forget that this is for fun and so it is and I’ll mention Link’s pick for this event. Storm In May (which, when I first heard the name in the media, it originally sounded like Stormy May) that is owned by Teresa and David Palmer.
Okay a last pick has been chosen by my mate and he is going with Michael and Doreen Tabor’s Circular Quay. What does that mean?? Circular Quay, hmmm :)
I have edited this blog down extremely because I was unsure of the terms on talking about horse racing when posting on an adsense supported site. I took a great deal of fun out of it, but have still left you with an idea of what goes on in the mania of Kentucky Derby down here in my small town in mid-atlantic USA.

1.Sedgefield
2.Curlin
3.Zanjero

I’m sad about Barbaro and have opinions on the way things were handled, but I don’t want to argue about all that now. I’m chin up. Here’s the Preakness from last year 2006
