Many expert warned of the possibility of Trojans and bots pretending to be normal chat or Voip programs. The MyTob is one of it , its categories under Malware. Malware infect the system and establishes a connection to the hacker by assimilating the flow of data as normal message. The firewall will not prevent these packets from flowing through.
For the solution, security experts have drastically warned for chat programs to be totally banned from usage. If administrators decide to block all chatting activities, surely the internet will be a safer place. However, this can only be realistically implemented in offices rather than for home users.
If you intend to continue chatting online, it’s best to use a proxy or firewall with password protection. However, if a Trojan gains access to the data stream then passwords are rendered useless. The best protection are offered by security suites, firewalls and updated virus scanners. Needless to say, even with the latest updated protection programs there will always be newer Trojans and viruses released by hackers. Recently Symantec has promised an enhanced security suite which caters specially for Instant Messengers.
