Yesterday, after a long while metro manila (in the Philippines) was a hit directly by a typhooon.
PAGASA (the local weather bureau) said that after 11 years the metro will be hit directly by this typhoon, they named Milenyo.
Wednesday night, the government announced the suspension of classes in all levels and government offices will also be closed except for vital services, the children were happy..Yey! no classes.
Thursday morning, we were able to wake up late since there were no classes and the day was starting out to be just like any other rainy day. The children were inside the house playing and fighting and playing and we were having fun, a time spent when everyone was home. I opened my computer and after about 15 mins the electricity fluctuated and restarted my pc. I ignored it, but then it happened again, three more times, so i decided to turn off the pc, cause i thought the power fluctuations might damage my pc. So I just went and watched TV. Everything seems to be ok.
The wind started blowing really hard just before lunch and slowly but surely it started blowing harder and rain had started to pour. And we thought here comes Milenyo. And with the power fluctuations and such we knew it was just a matter of time till the meralco shuts off power and as we were preparing to have our lunch, the electricity went off. I looked out the window and saw rain and debris being flung by the wind.
My husband bought batteries so that we can listen to the news on the radio and wah-la, this typhoon turned out to be a very strong one, it uprooted trees & fell electric and lamp posts on major highways. It even caught some of our neighbors roofs.
Giant billboards on EDSA were no match for Milenyo, one particular billboard fell on an FX killing it’s driver (sooo saaaddddd)
A 10 month old baby also died when their wall collapsed on his bed.
The power was out the rest of the day, we didn’t have anything to do really. No electricity, No TV, no PC. We tried to sleep but of course we were hearing the news on the radio and we heard of floods, more billboards falling, more trees being uprooted and more electric posts falling, there was even a landslide that buried a whole family.
The wrath of Milenyo. The wrath of nature. Winds blowing as high as 110mph. Rains that flood enough that you need to stay on your roof. And the worse part is there is absolutely nothing you can do about it. You go out protect your home and build it as sturdy as possible but then nature will go out and prove to you that all you’ve done is give yourself a false sense of security. I guess when it’s your time to die, it doesn’t matter who you are, where you are, what you’re doing, nature will surely follow it’s own course.
