36. The nations and their independence (3.09.2006)

I’ve been thinking for a long time about nations worldwide and their right to become/unite (in) an independant state of their own. Namely, why some nations have this self-determination right and the others don’t …

For example: why will Kosovo with less than 2 millions of people become an independant state, while Basques in Spain don’t have the right to separate themselves from Spain if we are talking about nations “same-in-number-of-poeple”, and why for instance Kurds in Iraq (who live in great numbers also in Iran and Turkey) also don’t have this right even though there are millions of them.

This time I am not offering a “solution” to this question/problem, like I did for instance in the “Idea on relativity of the guilt” entry on 12.02.2006 in my Slovenian Tadejevi Web-Zapiski blog: http://tayiper.blog.volja.net (i.e. it’s written in the Slovenian language); I am just giving you this topic to think about it yourselves (and optionally comment on it)

P.S. - Oh and yes, this entry was originally/first meant to be titled “36. The world’s nations and independence (3.09.2006)”, then I renamed it to “36. Nations and the right to independence (3.09.2006)”, and finally to the one that you can see above.
