Over the years, car manufacturers try to lure prospective car buyers with new car designs. In my opinion, car design just like watches and clothes seem to make a rehash of the old styles that came out decades ago.
While we all have design preferences, I can’t seem to understand the logic in making rounded cars. These seemed to be the design trend in autos three or four years ago. I don’t mind the rounded edges but the overall design somewhat makes the car seemed like it was copied from the likes of an insect such as a ladybug.
The bad part is not only are the exterior shape rounded worse even the inside interiors are rounded up in such a way that passenger space and comfort is already cramped and being sacrficed in exchange for sleekness in design.
Whoever was responsible for those rounded shape cars must be out of their minds. Have they ever tried driving and riding in a cramped car where you don’t have much leg room to move around. Perhaps they forgot the importance of wide spaces in cases of vehicular accidents. A cramped car means total damage to the body parts of the driver and the passengers.
I used to drive a 1996 Honda Accord which was semi-rounded in shape and I could never adjust to the roof height which was way too low compared to the older cars. Upon entering the driver’s seat, I always accidentally bumped my ears on the edge of the roof and what a painful experince it was. It felt like my ear was going to be sliced off.
Recently, I see that the 2006 models have improved and are assuming a combination of semi-square and rounded over the edge in terms of overall shape. The car manufacturers should understand that car buyers and drivers deserve the spacious leg room to enable them to rest their tired legs most especially on long driving trips.
And first and foremost, driver passenger safety is of paramount concern that should be the major consideration in designing car interior space for future cars. If an accident happens and the vital body parts of the passengers get stucked in a cramped car due to its clumsy design, then the manufacturer risks getting sued by the injured parties.
So the next time, these brilliant car engineers think of implementing future designs, never ever forget that no one wants to drive a crampy car. Even if the car was given for free, I wouldn’t risk my life driving it, would you?
