What is Google Adsense ?

|

If you have a website/blog, this is something you must not miss out on. Adsense is Google’s advertising program that allows webmasters (you, i.e) to earn a part of the revenue generated through advertising by placing ads in your website/blog. Most ads placed are on a cost-per-click basis. You may earn anything from 1 cent to >>20$ per unique click. Some are based on page impressions. An impression is made when someone views the ads on your page. The ads put on your site are related to the content of the page. So, there is a good probability of visitors clicking the ads.

Adsense is run successfully by many webmasters and if your website has a decent level of hits, you can easily earn 100$ p.m and that is just the beginning. Some members claim to earn more than 40,000$ a month. Ok, maybe that is not possible with us, but hey, getting about 200$ without having to work much for it doesn’t hurt anyone.
The best thing about Adsense is once you set it up on a site with reasonable hits, you don’t have to bother anything else. The earnings just seem to increase. I have a pretty stupid blog and it earns me around a $ a day. Hey, that is something.

Why is google paying me ? The answer is simple. Google earned revenue by placing ads on their search engine under the “Sponsored Links” section. Now, if google were to expand their domain, they’d get more revenue. And how you ask, would that be ? By placing the ads in your site/blog and hence giving you a share (20-80 %) of the revenue. Fair enough. So, lets get started.

$tart earning from your blog

In this section, we’ll discuss on how to start making money using a blog. This section is targeted at the newbies.

1. We need a blog to place our ads in, right ? What is better than blogger(blogspot.com) to start blogging ? This is because Google Adsense has tied up with blogger.com so that you can place the ads with ease, without having to copy paste the code in the template section, thus bypassing all those so called “geeky” stuff. If you blog with blogger, the ad insertion is too simple a task.

2. Once you’ve created a blog, you need to Apply for Adsense. You need a valid blog/site address that belongs to you because at the time of application, google now asks for a URL. So, I suggest that you complete step 1 if you do not have a blog.
After applying for Adsense, you’ll get your e-mail confirmation link and is supposed to click and validate your email account. You’ll be accepted into Adsense in 1-3 days after application. This is because google cross checks all the addresses and data in it’s database to find duplicity and to verify the URL you have given against any objectionable content like porn, violence etc.

3. Once you get the confirmation mail that you’ve been accepted into Adsense, login to your Blogger Dashboard and goto Template > Adsense tab and sign in using the email ID and password you had provided. Now you can insert the ads with ease. (Assuming you have at least one post in your blog.)

There, you are done ! Just keep posting or making new blogs and if your blog has a reasonable number of hits, you can, on an average earn a $ a day. One good thing about Adsense is that is does not require the “minimum hits” to a webpage, where the ad is being placed.
You earn anything from .1 to 5 $ (or more) PER cilck on your ads by a visitor. Click here to see the Ad formats you may use in your pages.

It is foolish to sit and click on your own ads the whole day. Google blocks a particular IP if the clicks are unnatural in nature. You know what I mean. Also, methods like IP cloaking etc. will be found out and your account will be permanently disabled if you do not stick to the guidelines.
Once you are kicked off the service, there is no way to re-join that same account as it will be disabled for good.
Also, google mentions it un-ethical to prompt users to click on the ads and click on your own ads.
Prompts to click on an ad MUST NOT be placed on the blog/site. (E.g : Please click on the ads and show support etc.)

Follow the guidelines given by google and stick on to it. It is said that Google is notorious for disabling accounts. But this is not true. Your account gets disabled iff you have done some violations to the guidelines which include
●excessive clicking of ads on one’s own site,
●webmaster (you) prompting visitors to click on ads,
●using software to emulate clicks,
●using IP cloaking or other methods to obtain unique host,
●automated clicking programs,
● a publisher altering any portion of the ad code or changing the layout, behavior, targeting, or delivery of ads for any reason etc.

Do not copy others’ works. i.e Avoid direct copy pasting of content into blogs. If you have only lifted contents in your pages, chances are that google may it find out.

£ How do I earn more money using adsense ?
Earnings per click totally depends on ads placed. So, if you blog about a hot topibc, chances are that you will earn a higher pay per click. Consider this. If you are blogging on free software utlities, the ads on your pages will be from a MFA (Made for Adsense) site, which will have nothing but Adsense ads. Now, do you think they’ll be paying 10$ per click ? of course not ! Your revenue for clicking such ads will account to about .01 $ or more. So, the content in your blog is very important.
Many ads are geographically targeted. This means that say, “Get an attorney in Florida” ad will be definitely be shown to only US residents. Why should the advertiser pay when a visitor in China is clicking on his Florida based ad ? Also, the advertiser may be willing to give 10$ a click for visitors from the USA. The publisher may get 5$ for such a click (some keywords can fetch upto 70$ A CLICK) Phew !
Adsense is based on contextual advertising. The ads shown totally depends on the keywords found in the page. Adsense searches for the keywords and the keyword density on a page to place relevant ads on a page.
