Someone recently asked me “I already have a .com and have a hosting service I’m happy with, why would I need a free domain and free hosting service?”

Well, that’s easy. Here’s just ONE reason…You have to think outside of the box. You may have a great site and great hosting service, but you must always think about driving traffic to your website or no one will ever see it!

There are LOTS of ways to drive traffic to your website. Some work well and others may only get you a few visitors. There are paid traffic programs that will sell you targeted traffic, there are autosurf programs, there are link exchanges, etc., etc.

Now, if you use a program like Adsense, you have to be very careful that you follow the terms of service or risk losing your account. Many of these traffic generating programs are not compatible with Adsense TOS and could also have a negative effect on your page rank. You have to maintain ’landing page’ quality within the Adsense TOS. Pages displaying ads must be found ’naturally’ so that the ads displayed are being viewed by people who have a genuine interest in that subject or related subject. The rules are there for a reason and quality is what makes it such a popular and effective advertising program and also worthwhile to website owners as a form of advertising income.

By building a simple FREE website related to your main website’s subject you can drive traffic to your website by generating genuine interest AND you can use traffic generating programs that would not be good for your main website. Build a simple website containing some articles, news feeds, etc., that are directly related to your target website’s subject. Do not place any adsense ads on it (but feel free to put some of your other affiliate ads on it if you wish). Place prominent links and your own advertisements for your target website on each page. You can promote this FREE website any way you choose (well, except spamming, because that’s just not legal) and the traffic that is generated through to your target site through your links and ads is done so through legitimate interest and provides quality traffic that is within the guidelines. On your free website, you don’t have to worry about page rank or adsense TOS.

So, setting up a quality ’feeder’ site is just one way of using a FREE web service and/or free domain name to enhance your target website.
