I really can’t figure this one out. Other than maybe the Drug Enforcement Agency worried about drugs being grown in the midst of hemp crops, I just can’t understand why the United States and other countries, like Thailand are opposed to hemp farming. I’m sure it would cost a lot less to regulate hemp crops than it would cost to investigate, set-up, arrest and try some sixty-year old guy growing a little bit of pot like he has all his life..What a waste of money THAT is..
Hemp is a very useful utilitarian crop that has been grown around the world for centuries and even in the United States until it was prohibited in the 1950’s. The Founding Fathers of the US were hemp farmers! Even the Declaration of Independence was drafted on hemp paper..could’ve even from Ben Franklin’s hemp paper mill! during World War II the Department of Agriculture promoted hemp farming in a campaign called “Hemp for Victory!” Maybe it’s time to get out from the 1950’s mentality of “Reefer Madness” and approach the subject rationally!
Comparing industrial hemp to marijuana is like calling tomatoes and potatoes drugs because they belong to the nightshade family.
Several countries around the world grow hemp legally with China and Eastern Europe being the major exporters of hemp and hemp products. The uses for hemp are almost endless. From birdseed to building materials to biodiesel and much, much more! For the United States as well as a small country like Thailand that has a rich farming industry, a crop like hemp would be very useful and income producing.
Throughout history and all over the world, hemp has proven to be an important and useful crop. It’s time to get past the short-sightedness of past legislation and allow the farming and production of hemp products. It’s good for farmers, good for consumers, and good for the economy…What’s the problem?

Kudos
Kudos to North Dakota state legislator Dave Monson! He testified in favor of legalizing industrial hemp processing, before members of the North Dakota state senate’s Agriculture Committee, at the Capitol in Bismarck, N.D., on Jan. 4, 2007.
