“The old jailor died, his daughter grew up, yet the girl still could not speak.”
The narrator explained the passing of the years in this classic Hammer horror film of the 1960’s
I’m sitting here watching “Curse of the Werewolf” a cheesy British horror flick by Hammer Films from 1961. I love watching these old movies, not so much for the story lines or tremendous acting, but as more of a visual art form. From the title and credits, to the colors and camera angles, these films are simple and seem to capture the essence of the times. I especially love the posters and ads for these films.
The one saving grace from this film is the sultry beauty of Yvonne Romain as the jailor’s mute daughter. Known mostly for her roles in these films, this raven-haired, buxom beauty can also be seen in many cheescake/pin-up photos from the 50’s and 60’s.
My favorite shot in this film is when she is thrown into the jail cell and fallen to her hands and knees looking up with innocence and fear. The costume accentuates and the camera, of course, catches her most prominent assets brilliantly.
I’m a fan!
