Most people don’t know that the book the family musical film Chitty Chitty Bang Bang was based on was penned by the same author as the popular James Bond series.
Released in 1968, this great family musical starred Dick van Dyke as a lovable, wacky inventor named Caractacus Potts, Sally Ann Howes as Truly Scrumptious his unlikely love interest, Lionel Jeffries as the funny father of Caractus Potts and Benny Hill as the Toymaker, and Gert Frobe (James Bond’s Nemesis Auric Goldfinger) as Baron Bomburst and even Desmond Llewelyn (One of the all-time favorite James Bond Characters ’Q’) made an appearance as Coggins.
The movie has a great soundtrack with songs such as “Me Old Bamboo,” “You Two,” “Toot Sweets,” “Hushabye Mountain,” “Truly Scrumptious,” “Lovely Lonely Man,” “Posh!,” “The Roses of Success,” “Chu-Chi Face,” and of course the title track “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.”
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang was produced by Albert R. Broccoli who is credited with bringing the Ian Fleming Bond novels to the screen and produced or was involved in the production of most of the James Bond films.
This film is a must have for any family film collection!
