Cell Phone Upgrades - Are You Eligible?

Most people are not aware that they may qualify for a cell phone upgrade. If they are happy with their service they just extend their current service plan when it is time to renew. If they are not, they move on to the next carrier with the latest and greatest offer. Perhaps they even go out and purchase the newest phone that everyone is raving about and have their service transferred to their new toy.

Maybe you have had your phone and service plan for almost two years now and, although you liked that cool clamshell design and the neat selection of ringtones when you signed up for the plan, the phone is outdated and, let’s face it, today’s phones have even cooler ringtones!

An option that might be of benefit to anyone who is in need of a new phone is a free upgrade. Of course not everyone is eligible, but if you are nearing time for renewing your service plan, it may be worthwhile to inquire about a free phone upgrade.

Eligibility requirements vary from carrier to carrier and are usually based on several conditions which may include a customer’s payment record, current plan and usage history. For example: To be eligible for a special contract extension offers such as free phone upgrades, a service provider may require 22 months of continuous coverage on the phone being upgraded as well as a minimum rate plan, like a $34.99 monthly service plan or higher. They, most likely will also require that the current account be in good financial standing and that the subscriber be willing to extend service for an additional amount of time (usually 12 to 24 months depending on the service plan).

Phones available as upgrades will vary as well. While Sprint may offer the Palm Centro, Samsung M250 or the LG Rumor, AT&T might have the BlackBerry Curve 8310 Titanium edition or the Samsung BlackJack II i617 available as upgrades. All of them are excellent phones with lots of features and would make an outstanding replacement for any model nearing two years old. If you qualify, getting a free upgrade could, quite possibly, turn out to be a very good deal!

So, if you are getting close to renewal or contract extension time, take a look at what your carrier has to offer in the way of phone upgrades and find out if you qualify. Pretty soon, you may be sporting a snazzy, new BlackBerry Pearl 8110 Titanium or LG Glimmer AX830!
