You will never achieve financial freedom if you work for somebody else. As such, when given the choice between working for an employer, whether or not such employer is established, and working for yourself, you should always choose to work for yourself. The reason that working for somebody else will never give you financial freedom is because your pay is dependant on somebody else. As such, should anything happen to that company or anything happen to you at that company, your income could suddenly stop coming in the door. Although, it is true that if you own your own business, it could also go out of business. However, because you have management control over your own business, you will not be surprised by any financial problems that may arise.
Let me clarify that being self-employed does not necessarily mean that you own your own business. If you are an entrepreneur, you may not have a physical business at all. Your “business” may be investments (whether it is real estate, stock, or otherwise). As such, you do not need a traditional business to engage in such an enterprise. Therefore, when you hear the term “self-employed,” you have to keep in mind that this does not necessarily mean that the self-employed person owns his/her own business. Being self-employed simply means that the business you conduct is for your benefit and nobody else’s. This is different from being employed by a company because when you work for company, you are working for the benefit of that company.
Being self-employed provides you with the opportunity to pursue opportunities that you may not ordinarily be able to pursue should you be employed by an employer. Additionally, being self-employed means that you have complete control over your own financial future. Thus, if anything goes wrong, you only have yourself to blame.
I understand that people like to work for an employer because they may not want the responsibility of having to make their own money. People like the comfort of being paid for a doing particular job and not having to track down and pursue opportunities in order to make a living. I would prefer the change of scenery and the excitement of having to find the deals as opposed to the same boring routine that accompanies working for somebody else.
Being self-employed gives you a better chance of becoming financially secure. As such, being self-employed is better than working for an established company.
