Technology has advanced to a point where people depend on it on a daily basis. The most commonly used piece of technology is arguably the computer. Some might argue that it is the television or the cellular phone, but due to the fact that so many businesses use computers for the survival of their business, the computer is the most important and most commonly used piece of technology. Truthfully, is does not matter what the most commonly used piece of technology is because the point is that we have become dependent upon technology. It is interesting to look back at a time before the invention of, for example, the cellular phone. Everybody got along fine without it. But, because that device has become so ingrained in our culture, people feel naked or even lost when they forget to grab it before leaving the house.

What is interesting is that even though society has become controlled by technology, this is not a bad thing. Technology makes our lives easier and more convenient. Technology helps us save time, manage our finances, and even make money. Technology helps us cook our food, keep our families safe, and makes it possible for us to stay in connect with family members regardless of where they live. Therefore, being a society that is controlled by technology is not a bad thing.

Of course there are scary things that technology has created. Weapons of mass destruction and other war machines can cause devastation and chaos. However, such machines and technology can also help protect and keep secure my country and yours. As such, even though any technology can be used for evil purposes, as long as good people exist to regulate the technology that we use, I do not fear living in a society controlled by technology.

Many people have watched too many movies about machines rising up and killing every human on earth. This is merely science fiction, yet many people develop elaborate conspiracy theories about the rise of technology and the fall of mankind. However, we have to be realistic. No “self-aware” machines are coming for us, cars cannot come to life and seek revenge on their drivers, and machines are not going to create a computer generated world for humans to live in while feeding off of our body heat for energy.

The point is, technology, for the most part, is a great thing. The advantages that technology brings to the daily lives of many people are great. As such, even though society is controlled by technology, everybody benefits from such a society.
