I am so angry that I just had to vent. I live in sunny Florida year round. I love it down here as far as the weather and the beaches. There is always something to do. Nascar is here. The climate is great for my health. I love my gardens. But…….and that is a big one………This state is all about the money. It is truely the tourist trap of the century. People don’t even realize it. Here is a perfect example:
We have several vehicles. All plated and insured. One of the vehicles is being repaired. This is going to take some time to get parts, ect. So we took it off our insurance. Did not renew the plate on it and have it parked out of the way so as not to create an eyesore on the landscape. We just got a letter saying that my boyfriend’s driver’s license was going to be suspended because he did not have insurance on this vehicle. I argued that it was not being driven, and in fact, could not be driven due to the repairs being done. I was told that we had to turn our plate back into the state and when the car was back on the road, we could get it back. For a fee of course. Did I mention that I had to pay a processing fee when I turned the plate in? When we got the plate, there was a fee and tax of $150. To get the plate back is another $18.50. So it totals to be $170.50 just for the stupid license plate on this car.

Florida is not user friendly

Submitted by jar617 on Fri, 2007-01-12 11:38. home office | home worker | job | outsourcing | telecommute | telecommuting | work at home | work from homeI searched for a long time for information on being able to work from home. It took two years and many frustrating searches to finally find the information I needed. But I did find it. Most of the information I found, at first, wanted an upfront fee for membership into the private member areas. They tempt with promises of 1000’s of company listings, all guaranteed to hire you.
On conducting a more thorough search, I came across much better offers. So in an attempt to make it more fair, I set up a web site. I listed all the companies that I know hire directly with no fees. I listed some on the front page and many more in the site map. I got tired of being taken advantage of, so I made the information free. Anyone can log on and see who is hiring. Most of these jobs are telemarketing. But I will tell you this. I work for one of them that takes inbound calls for companies like Virgin Mobile and Shop NBC. They also handle Sears, ToysRUs, and Home Shopping Network. The calls I recieve are easy to deal with. No irrate customers, no cold calls, no feeling dejected because you are not making quota. There is no catch to this. You log on, register, start your training, get certified and start taking calls. This particular company pays every two weeks either by check or direct deposit. I work an average of 20 hours a week and make damn good money.
Florida Gators Chomp on to Victory
Submitted by jar617 on Tue, 2007-01-09 11:55. bcs champs | buckeyes | championship | college | College football | football | football teams | gators | SportsWell, the Florida Gators did it. They shut out the Ohio State Buckeyes. Final score 41 to 14. Ouch! Everyone thought undefeated Ohio State would walk all over the 2nd place Gators. Two weeks of press propoganda must have went to their heads. And 51 days between games didn’t help either.
When the opening kick return resulted in a 97 yard touchdown, everyone thought the Buckeyes were once again showing how tough they were. But the Gators answered right back with an impressive scoring drive to tie the game. So it began. Then penalty after penalty plagued Ohio State. Adding insult to injury, their own Ted Ginn, who made the TD return, left the game in the first quarter with a turned ankle.

Tired of the Same Old Thing
Submitted by jar617 on Thu, 2006-09-21 10:35. candidates | elections | policies | political corruption | politiciansI am so sick of seeing the political ads for the governorship of Florida. 4 candidates eager to tell tales on the other. Now we are down to 2, yet the finger pointing still continues. Add to it the fact the president of the US is coming to a $500 per plate dinner to endorse the republican candidate………does he really need that much support to call on our present governor’s brother? Can’t he do it on his own? The sad thing is that because of this, he will most likely be our next governor. No matter how I vote.
I hate the political corruption, the lies, the deceitful policies. I feel that as a government for the people, they should concentrate on jobs, schools, homeless, and health…nothing else. Make our workforce more stable, our schools a better education system, healthcare affordable for everyone, and the same with housing. The better the economy the better the constituents like whoever is in office……….you can screw whoever you want as long as I get paid, can feed my family, have a decent place to live, and my kid can read.
Stupid People Annoy Me
Submitted by jar617 on Tue, 2006-09-19 10:34. brain | brain power | common sense | conclusions | ignorance | reasoningI have found out, as I am sure many of you have, that stupid people annoy the hell out of me. Not the ones who really don’t know. The ones that do, are the ones I am talking about. The person who is always upset about what is going on in their life because they know something isn’t right, but they just don’t know what. Come off it, yes they do! They know exactly what is happening. They just don’t want to face it. So they play stupid, and when the inevitable comes, they act shocked. They act as though the whole world knew but them. We have instinct for a reason. We have the ability to reason.
Starting a Business can be Tough
Submitted by jar617 on Fri, 2006-09-15 13:30. business | business loans | business owner | entrepreneur | home business | small businessI come from a long line of smal business owners. My great grandmother had her own sewing business. With thirteen children and a bed-ridden husband, she had to do something. No one ever knew that the clothes her kids wore she had made herself. I can even remember watching her make my aunt try on the new bra she had just done! Catheleen hated it. Standing in the middle of the living room, in front of her 12 brothers, with this thing on over her dress. The boys had a field day with that one. Looking back, it is funny to realize that she was the only one who never owned her own business. Shse grew up, got married and was quite content to be a stay at home mom. All the other kids started some business or another as soon as school was done for them. None of them went to college. One started a used car lot. His sons run it now, along with a interstate truck stop complete with restaurant and hotel. One has a tree trimming business that he still runs with his sons and grandson. Another did roofing and siding. His son got his contractor’s license and builds houses now. My mother was a professional artist until she passed away in 2003. She sold her gallery right before her death. And then there is me. I had a profitable home party plan, a clothing store, and even a bar. If that wasn’t enough to sober you up, I don’t know what is.
sick sick sick
Submitted by jar617 on Fri, 2006-09-15 04:01. asthma | doctor | hospital | illness | sick | smokingIt was nice to log on tonight and see everyone still here. This is my own little safe haven for some reason. I like coming here and reading what everyone has to say. I see the young ones, the new ones, the old and wise. What a melding pot. But I like that. Is was like listening to one of my cd’s, lighting candles and turning on the waterfall……quiet solitude. Which is what I needed. I have been sick for about 2 weeks now. Can’t breathe and all that happy crap……….turns out my childhood asthma is back…that sux! But I was so relieved when the doctor told me that was all it was. I had to do blood and x-rays and pills and needles and yuk, yuk, yuk!!!! But I am back and feeling a whole lot better. Been able to work on the site some more. Added a few more work from home businesses and another page or two. It’s comming along quite well I guess……..still not a lot of visitors. But the ones that do come, keep coming back….so I must be doing something right. And the adsense revenues are picking up. So all in all I am happy.
Tailless dolphin
Submitted by jar617 on Fri, 2006-09-08 12:23. dolphin | marine life | prosthetic | wildlife | wildlife rescueIt was on the news radio station I listen to that a dolphin in Florida got caught in a crab trap and lost it’s tail. The dolphin is only 10 months old. It survived the incident, but now can only swim side to side, like a shark. Wildlife conservationists are taking donations to raise $100,000 to buy this dolphin a new tail. It seems at her young age she will need several in her lifetime. Her name is Winter. She was injured in Mosquito Lagoon at Canaveral National Seashore.
As quoted from Flroida Today.com
“The aquarium hopes to raise at least $100,000 to pay for the tail. They hope to fashion an artificial tail for her similar to the black rubber one biologists put on a 34-year-old dolphin named Fuji in 2004 in Okinawa, Japan. That tail was made by Bridgestone Corp., using technology associated with Formula One auto racing. The tail was specially made to have the proper density and flexibility for swimming”
