Some time ago a site, called Citizendium(The citizens’ compendium) opened. It’s a project of one of the founders of wikipedia, which tries to offer more reliable information than wikipedia(and to oust wikipedia as a popular information source, says the founder of the site). How is it different from wikipedia? Citizendium doesn’t allow anonymous writers and all articles are checked by specialists.
As an idea, citizendium sounds interesting but can it really overtake wikipedia? There aren’t so many articles in the site yet and their writing speed doesn’t necessarily grow so big because of the hard conditions. In the future, citizendium will propably be offering information of many useful subjects and for many people, it might turn into the place where you first go to find information. Nevertheless, it’s hard for me to believe that someday there would be more information than in wikipedia(except if wikipedia dies or something else happens) so the disposal of wikipedia will propably remain for long time.
Still, I wish everything lucky to citizendium. This is a project that is worth to keep eyes on.
